MEMORANDUM FOR Grp CC Grp CP Cadet or Composite Sq CC FROM: NYWG/CPAN 817 Stewart Avenue (Rear) Garden City, NY 11530-4856 SUBJECT: NY Wing Cadet NCO of the Year (NYW CNCOOY) 2000 Applications 1. NY Wing CP is starting a new award this year, the NY Wing Cadet NCO of the Year (CNCOOY). This award will be bestowed upon a cadet NCO (C/SSgt to C/CMSgt ONLY) who represents the best cadet NCO in the wing. This award is strictly wing - there is no corresponding region or national award. The CNCOOY will be awarded a plaque and public recognition at the Wing Conference in May. At this time, I do not know if scholarship monies are available for the recipient of this award. 2. I apologize for the late notice of this award from Wing, however it is common for groups to have a CNCOOY which will make this an easy process for most groups. Groups will forward their applications to Wing HQ. Application packages will be identical to Cadet of the Year, except "Cadet NCO of the Year" will be written along the top of the CAPF 58's. All applications that do not contain the following criteria will not be considered- be sure to have everything. Applications will include, unbound (i.e. no staples):a. 2 copies of CAPF 58 (link is to CAP Forms webpage, requires Winzip) b. 1 photograph (Extra points if in uniform, full-body-length, in blues) c. 2 copies of Cadet Resume (link is for download in Word 97, PC format) d. A maximum of three (3) letters of recommendation, any source e. A transcript of high school or college grades from the 1999-2000 academic year is required (or a note indicating the applicant is not in school this year, in which case include the most recent transcript) f. A one (1) page (one side of one sheet of paper, single spaced) essay explaining why the cadet feels they should be selected as the NY Wing Cadet NCO of the Year g. Applicants must identify a senior member who was their primary mentor in the 2000 calendar year, and write a brief (~1 paragraph) summary of how this senior mentored them. Include the senior's name, grade and unit.3. The NY Wing CNCOOY review boards will be conducted on 13 January 2001, starting at 1000, scheduled at Stratton ANGB. The cadet from LIG will be interviewed after 1300 hours, and cadets from all other groups will be interviewed starting at 1000 hours. Cadets that cannot attend in person for extenuating circumstances may do a phone interview on 13 January 2001 (same day, details to come). The WNY COY, because of the WNY ball, may call in if they are attending the ball. 4. In case of inclement weather, the review board will be conducted the following week on 20 January 2001, location TBD. In this case, the WNY CNCOOY would be expected to attend in person, and would be interviewed after 1300 like LIG. Groups and squadrons will be notified via email, and cadets will be given phone calls (if all phone numbers have been filled out on the cadet résumés) 5. Groups will forward packages for any existing Cadet NCO's of the Year to wing. To save time, mail applications mailed directly to me (503-2 Robert Quigley Dr, Scottsville NY 14546) to arrive NLT 12 January 2001. Forwarding the name ahead of the package is helpful. Groups may conduct their group CNCOOY review boards in any manner they choose. I apologize for any last minute scrambling this may cause, to assemble review boards and such. If we work hard, we can make this happen in time for the 13th's review board. I personally dropped the ball on getting the word out about this award, and great leniency will be given as far as timeliness. The sooner you (the groups) tell me if you can't make it in time, the better I can plan. 6. If there are any questions, feel free to call me at 716-889-8502, or email val_n_andy@hotmail.com or the Director of Cadet Programs, Maj. Henry Grullon at hgrullon@bellatlantic.net. Andrew J.
